Deft Dealings of Dropkick Murphys

I bought Ted Leo tickets today (I blogged about him here), he's playing at Richards on Richards (perhaps my favorite venue ever) on September 2nd. I am extremely excited to see him perform live as I have been told he puts on an amazing show, high energy sweaty thrashing rock. Equally exciting are the tickets I have to see Dropkick Murphys on October 19th. Especially since their new album has been keeping my walkman busy for days. I am a little pressed for time, so I am going to cheat a bit with this post but the proof is in the downloads...

A snippet from the biography which can be found on the Dropkick Murphy's website:
Dropkick Murphys formed in 1996 in Boston, MA. The band was originally just a bunch of friends looking to play music for fun. We started playing in the basement of a friend's barbershop and our goal was to blend the musical influences we had grown up with (Punk Rock, Irish Folk, Rock, and Hardcore) into one loud, raucous, chaotic, and often out of tune mix that we could call our own.

Another snippet, this one from an indieworkshop review by D.J. Kirkbride:
If, after the scant moments of quiet bagpipes are explosively joined by pounding drums, crunching guitar, and the simple command of "Go!", you're not completely in Dropkick Murphy's exuberant grasp with the opening track "Your Spirit's Alive"... there may be no hope. Remove their new studio album, "The Warrior's Code" out of your CD player and go... I don't know... sip on your prune juice, awaiting your turn at the shuffleboard. Seriously. For the rest of you, sit back and get ready for a new dose of Dropkick Murphy's perfect blend of Irish folk and punk rock. On this latest collection is just one potentially inspiring, shout along anthem after another. The proceedings slow down a bit for an epic ballad called "The Green Fields of France," but other than that it's a group of straight ahead rock songs to pump your fists to and yell along with.

Clippings of Clap Your Hands Say YEAH!

I have been busy, brothers visiting me from Nova Scotia, work desperately trying to get done... things shall improve... but not until I return from Jasper in September ;) In any event here's a quick post about a kickin' band that Rob introduced to me today; Clap Your Hands Say YEAH.

Here's a Pithfork Mediareview of the album, it received a 9.0!!! Up for your listening pleasure are three songs (which can be found on the band's website www.clapyourhandssayyeah.com):

Over and Over Again (Lost and Found) - This song ties soothing melodies to an amazingly unique vocal performance by the group's singer and songwriter Alec Ounsworth.
In This Home On Ice
Upon This Tidal Wave Of Young Blood

Lyrics for all three songs can be found here.
